El objetivo de la presente contribución es apuntar nuevas perspectivas teóricas que permitan analizar la acción ritual en las sociedades modernas. Concretamente, se pondrá a prueba el concepto de campo, desarrollado por Pierre Bourdieu, como herramienta que nos permita acercarnos a una mejor comprensión de la fiesta de las Fallas. Investing in a PhD : Human capital or cultural capital ?

The first part is mainly devoted to the study of the theoretical positions of Gary Becker and Pierre Bourdieu, the main theme being the vision of education as a capital. The notions of human capital (Becker) and cultural capital (Bourdieu) are presented, compared and criticised, each one being replaced in its theoretical context. The second part is devoted to empirical analyses concerning the PhD. We first try to assess the monetary return on a PhD. Then we look for the reasons why people pursue study at doctoral level, knowing that the monetary return can not by himself explain this decision. Lo scritto di Clelia Bartoli riprende soprattutto la teoria dello Stato del sociologo francese delineata durante i corsi tenuti al College de France nel 1989/1990 e nel 1990/1992. Bourdieu ha rifuggito una moda intellettuale a lui coeva che spingeva storici politologi giuristi e sociologi a vagliarne cause e ragioni evoluzioni ed epiloghi delle rivoluzioni a discapito però di quanto accade sul fondale: lo scialbo ovattato e ripetitivo ordine delle cose. Bourdieu riteneva che dovesse stupire e meritare di essere spiegato fosse più la permanenza del mutamento l’ovvio più dell’eccentrico l’ordinario più straordinario. Tuttavia nel corso delle lezioni menzionate afferma che per provare nell’ardua impresa di pensare e comprendere lo Stato sia necessario guardare al momento della sua genesi o alle fasi di crisi come durante le rivoluzioni. È infatti in quei momenti che il potere simbolico di cui lo Stato ha il monopolio non è stabile e si presta ad essere osservato come frutto di un processo anziché nella sua ineluttabilità. Le categorie e l’approccio socioepistemico à la Bourdieu vengono adottate dalla Bartoli per leggere il caso dell’insorgenza cilena del 2019 e l’esordio del processo costituente.

Translation as a measure of literary domination: the case of Quebec literature translated in Spain (1975-2004)

Recent literary manifestos claim that “the center is no longer the center” (Le Devoir 2007). Indeed, it is generally admitted that Quebec literature has been more or less independent from the French field since the 1970’s. The paper attempts to answer, whether it is possible for successful artists in one specific sector to access the domain of another artistic field at their free will. In doing so, this contribution analyses the possible existence of borders and gatekeepers between different art worlds. The aim is not just finding or defining boundaries between art fields, but rather understanding, if boundaries can be pierced through, as well as the conditions that might hinder acceptance.
